Calling of Acts 2:39

The call referred to in Acts
2:39 is the calling of the Holy Spirit. It is by the power
of the Holy Spirit. It is a holy calling; 2nd Timothy 2:9.
God does the calling; 1st Cor. 1:9.
God calls all the heirs of promise, and those who are called
are children of the promise; Galatians 3:29 ; and 4:28. The
promise was made before the world began; Titus 1:2.
The Lord confirmed the promise with an oath; Hebrews
6:13-17.
Ephesians 2:10 teaches us that the children of God are the
workmanship of God – not the workmanship of God and company,
but of God. It shows that a creative power is necessary to
put one in Christ – “created in Christ.” Putting one in
Christ, then, is a creative work, and requires creative
power.
They are “created in Christ Jesus UNTO good works.” In order
that one walk in, or perform, the good works.” In order that
one walk in, or perform the good works of the gospel, he
must first be created in Christ unto good works.
This being true, no one performs the good works in order to
be in Christ, but he must be in Christ in order to perform
the good works.
And those who have thus been created in Christ should walk
in the good works which God has commanded. The Lord has
ordained, or prepared, the good works, and those who are in
Christ, the Lord’s children should perform them. |
