How Shall He Not? |

Romans
8:32 "He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him
up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us
all things?"
There are three parts to
consider in this verse. The first two parts establish the
reasoning behind the third one.
The First Part: "He that spared not his own Son"
God spared not His Son. God was not tender in dealing with
His Son as the propitiation for the sins of the children of
God. It's interesting how this is worded, saying that God
"spared not" instead of just saying "God delivered." The use
of the language and grammar gives us insight into the why.
The phrase "He that spared not" intimates that could
have very well spared His own Son, but He bound Himself by
love NOT to spare His Son! He bound Himself WITH His Son in
covenant before the world began. His counsel will stand and
be performed according to God's pleasure! (Isaiah 46:10-11)
When God purposes something He stands fast in it and
performs it accordingly!
God bound Himself not to spare His Son! How shall he not?
The Second Part: "But delivered him up for us all"
God delivered His son. Now comes the reason God didn't spare
His Son. God literally surrendered His Son to be a sacrifice
for sin! Peter states, "Him, being delivered by the
determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken,
and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:" (Acts
2:23) The Jews took Him and crucified Him, but God delivered
Him up to be the Saviour of the world! And the Lord Jesus
Christ came, bound in and by that
same love, and willingly gave Himself as a ransom for the
people of God! God bound Himself to deliver His Son up for
us! How shall he not?
The Third Part: "How shall
he not with him also freely give us all things"
We cannot bind God. We are unable to constrain God by
contracts or deals or promises. However, God, in His
sovereignty, has bound Himself by His love for His children!
Perhaps one of the most prolific examples of this comes from
Hebrews 10:17: "And their sins and iniquities will I
remember no more." The sacrifice of Jesus on the cross
and the resulting finished work by Christ moved God in His
will to remember our sins no more! He didn't forget them; He
willed not to remember them! He bound Himself in and by
love!
Within context, the "all things" under consideration that
are freely given are found in vs. 29-30:
He foreknew
us! How shall He not?
He
predestinated us! How shall He not?
He called us!
How shall He not?
He justified
us! How shall He not?
He glorified
us! How shall He not? (Rom. 8:28-30)
The God of all glory spared not but delivered, and then
bestows in kindness all things unto His children!
God bound Himself to freely give us all things! How shall he
not?
"And solemn oaths have bound His love to shower salvation
down." - Isaac Watts |
